The exhibition "Backstage with Yves and Karl" presents a fascinating selection of photographs from the extensive archive of the renowned Hamburg stern photographer Volker Hinz (1947–2019), taken between the 1970s and 1990s. Immerse yourself in the glamorous world of fashion, couturiers, and supermodels, and take a behind-the-scenes look at fashion shows and the studios of the most significant designers of their era – especially in Paris.
Thanks to his position as a stern photographer, Volker Hinz had access to areas that were off-limits to other photojournalists. The focus of the exhibition is on backstage shots with Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld, as well as very personal moments in the designers' private environments. Of particular value are these last, personally signed by Volker Hinz, monochrome vintage prints, capturing the cultural zeitgeist of a formative era in the fashion world.
