Special Exhibition: Übermensch
Sculptures by Klaus Effern

Klaus Effern, born 1967, lives and works in Bremen. In Bad Segeberg, two series of works by the artist are displayed facing the sculptures of Otto Flath. In the small exhibition room, the ensemble "Mocking," seven wooden sculptures, serve as a modern three-dimensional version of Matthias Grünewald's (1506) altarpiece "The Mocking of Christ." The sculptor creates a situation with his sculptures that transforms the museum visitor from a mere observer into a witness of the scene. In the large exhibition room, Klaus Effern's new sculptures provoke amidst the collection of Flath's works. Despite their oversized dimensions, they establish direct contact with us. The associations with Nietzsche's concept of the Übermensch, as well as with other utopian ideas, are present, just like current political trends, such as those of the tech elite in Silicon Valley.
