Classical Music
Laeiszhalle (Großer Saal), Hamburg

Under the inspiring baton of Han-Na Chang, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra presents a program that tells of longing, new beginnings, and new horizons. The principal guest conductor, known for her combination of precision and passionate intensity, leads the orchestra through two masterpieces that connect Europe and America: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World.”

Pianist Szymon Nehring takes the audience on a journey as soloist in Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, a work that combines new beginnings and longing with virtuoso power. The music wrestles with emotions, gliding between wistful melodies and breathtaking technical brilliance—a reflection of the composer’s inner struggles and hopes.

Afterwards, in his symphony »From the New World«, Antonín Dvořák opens the doors to a world where old memories meet new sounds. Europe looks to America, melodies migrate, identities are reshaped, and the pursuit of happiness resounds as a universal motif. A multi-layered panorama of human longing and thirst for adventure unfolds, resonating with hope, but also with a great deal of nostalgia.
