Classical Music
Elbphilharmonie (Großer Saal), Hamburg

In his Ninth Symphony, Gustav Mahler offers a final, deeply moving testament. In what is perhaps his most intimate work, the composer – already gravely ill – explores the outermost reaches of human emotion: pain and joy, despair and love, fiery outbursts and tender moments of transcendence – all flowing together into music that balances a last, burning thirst for life with ultimate release. In the end, the symphony gently fades in a series of lingering tone – a quiet, poignant farewell that also celebrates the beauty of life.

The Norddeutsche Orchesterakademie (North German Orchestra Academy) is a projectbased orchestra in which students, professionals, and amateurs come together once a year for an intensive rehearsal period – a diverse collective of people of all ages and professions, united by one thing: an unwavering passion for music.
