Mark Eliyahu

World Music
Laeiszhalle (Kleiner Saal), Hamburg

Mark Eliyahu invites you on a profound sound journey, in which he combines traditional instruments such as kamantsche and tar with modern and futuristic electronics in a charismatic performance.
Born in Dagestan in 1982 as the son of Piris Eliyahu, a world-renowned tar master, composer, arranger and musicologist, Mark Eliyahu has spent his whole life surrounded by music. He first learned the violin and piano, then in his youth discovered first the baglama – a Greek lute instrument – and later the kamantsche – a fiddle of Iranian and Azerbaijani music. The sound impressed him so much that he travelled after it – to Greece and to Azerbaijan. Mark Eliyahu’s music tells of his travels and numerous musical cultures.
