In the 1950s, an American is arrested during a trip to Switzerland. Witnesses believe they recognize in him a sculptor who disappeared seven years earlier, involved in a political scandal, but the man denies everything. The prosecutor and public defender try to clarify the matter, yet even the wife and friends of the missing person cannot confirm the identity of the arrested man. The adaptation of the novel of the same name by Max Frisch skillfully tightens the source material and revolves around two timelines highlighting colorful, not definitively established identities. The production carefully captures the spirit and color of the time and can rely on excellent actors.
