Other Concerts
Elbphilharmonie (Großer Saal), Hamburg

BR-Klassik calls the Huelgas Ensemble from Belgium the »first address for vocal perfection«. The ensemble specialises in music from around 1600, and in Hamburg, the choir presents a programme built around the famous medieval motto »Memento mori«, which reminds us of the transience of life. The concert features laments for prominent Renaissance figures as well as sacred works that represent highlights of vocal polyphony from the period.

Paul Van Nevel is a true authority on Renaissance choral music. The conductor and musicologist – once described as the »Hercule Poirot of early music« – has rediscovered numerous masterworks, thanks in part to his profound knowledge of music libraries across Europe. For over 50 years, he has been bringing these discoveries to life on stages around the world with the Huelgas Ensemble. Over that time, the group has also released more than 120 albums.
