Ensemble Resonanz / Alena Baeva / Riccardo Minasi

Classical Music
  • Elbphilharmonie (Großer Saal), Hamburg
€16.00 - €78.00

Riccardo Minasi and the Ensemble Resonanz have already proven with their Mozart interpretations that they can charge classical music with the energy of a rock concert and also show temperament and depth in other masterpieces. Together with the celebrated violinist Alena Baeva, they ignite a firework of sound colours and emotions: from Debussy’s dazzling colours to Bruch’s passionate violin concerto and Mozart’s »Little G minor Symphony« to Ravel’s elegant homage to baroque dance forms.

How does the faun actually spend his afternoon? The beautiful nymphs he wanted to entice with his flute playing escape him, he sees himself spurned – he can only hold on to them in his erotically charged, circling fantasy. But longing is better than fulfilment because, as Pierre Boulez says so beautifully, »after the faun’s flute, European music breathes differently« – referring to the significance of Debussy’s work for modernism. Debussy’s Prélude sets the concert hall into a dreamy vibration, a gentle intoxication of light and colour in which time and space seem to flow.

Then the fire blazes – a love story in three chapters: Palpitations, devotion, ecstasy. Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto is one of the most expressive works of the Romantic period – full of longing, passion and virtuosic, surging emotions. Alena Baeva, one of the most fascinating violinists of her generation, brings out the deep emotions of this masterpiece with her unmistakable sound. Hot ears and glowing hearts guaranteed. Mozart can also burn: His Symphony No. 25 in G minor – often referred to as the »little sister« of the famous 40th Symphony – pulsates with impetuous drama, in which dark passion and youthful restlessness wrestle with each other. Ravel’s »Le Tombeau de Couperin« is an homage to baroque dance forms and at the same time a loving memorial piece to the composer’s friends who died in the First World War.
