Charles Dickens – A Christmas Carol

Advent Stories 2026 | A Classic of Christmas Literature by Charles Dickens | Adapted by Astrid Griesbach

“Another Christmas here, another year gone!”
Ebenezer Scrooge in Charles Dickens’ *A Christmas Carol*

This year, too, the descendants of Ebenezer Scrooge—a highly questionable exemplar of the human condition—gather during the Christmas season to commemorate December 19, 1843, the day Scrooge became a different man.
They immerse themselves in Scrooge’s world, take ownership of the story, are gripped by greed, beaten by ghosts, moralize with relish, and create the dream of a blissful Christmas. Just like every year. A happy ending? A story that’s not quite accurate, not quite believable, but certainly true!
The tradition of Advent stories continues this year with a great Christmas classic on the small stages of the Kulturmühle and the M*Halle. Charles Dickens’ tale of the Christmas- and people-hating Ebenezer Scrooge has been performed on stages and screens in many places—perfect for Advent and for all who love theater.
