Blechschaden / Bob Ross

Classical Music
Laeiszhalle (Großer Saal), Hamburg

With over 40 years on stage and every ensemble member a proven top musician, it would be tempting to label the group Blechschaden as »tried and tested and never equaled«. But that’s only one side of the brass coin; the other, for which they are loved by their loyal fan base, is their tireless commitment to bringing out the fun side of music, thereby reducing any attempt to distinguish between serious and popular music to absurdity. With each of their performances, the world-famous »fun faction« of the Munich Philharmonic shows that any kind of music, whether pop or opera, musical or classical symphony, can be enjoyable if presented in the right way, i.e., unconventionally.

In their new program, the philharmonic »foreign legionnaires« once again mix different musical genres into a highly entertaining cocktail of melodies, garnished with hilarious moderation and interludes. Their Scottish conductor Bob Ross in particular draws generously on his humor, in a manner quite uncharacteristic of the Scots. Whether it’s »classical music with humor«, musical hits, or a pop anthem suddenly sounding orchestral.

Despite the serious professionalism with which the musicians master their instruments, Blechschaden always focuses on one thing above all else: entertaining the audience with and around music. Is that possible in Bavaria without Bavarian music? Of course not! So something hearty like the »Steingadener Musikantenmarsch« is a must.
