Author Reading with Helga Schubert

Book Reading with Helga Schubert: "The Week After: A Book of Hours of Hope"—the author's new book

The new book by the SPIEGEL bestselling author. If you have to, you can start over even at nearly ninety—a book about love, death, and a fresh start

A Friday morning in August, a nursing bed in a quiet house in Mecklenburg—and after that, a life that needs to be redefined.

What happens when the person you’ve loved for over sixty years and cared for for over ten years passes away? In her unmistakable, crystal-clear prose, Helga Schubert describes her own state of mind during the first week—the initial period following her husband’s death—observing herself as she navigates the space between sadness and relief.

In laconic vignettes, the Bachmann Prize winner tells of grief without pathos, of Chopin and Bach as sources of comfort, of encounters with animals in the garden, and of her eventual self-assertion.

Tickets are available in advance for 12.00 euros at the Schnürl & Müller bookstores in Grevesmühlen and Gadebusch, as well as at the Grevesmühlen City Library; at the box office, they cost 15.00 euros
