Film screening and discussion at the Federal Archives
Stasi Records Archive Schwerin on 24.05.2025
The film "WILLY - Betrayal of the Chancellor" delves into the opaque world of espionage and political intrigue of the Cold War: in the early 1970s, the BND decrypts an old, secret message to a Stasi agent in the West. The contents, which were birthday wishes, led to the Federal Chancellor's entourage: Willy Brandt's personal advisor Günter Guillaume was targeted. On April 24, 1974, he and his wife were arrested as GDR spies. The end of an agent's career and also the Chancellor's term of office - Willy Brandt resigned a few days later on May 6, 1974.
On Saturday, May 24, as part of the "Saturdays in the Archive" series of events, the documentary film takes the audience on a journey through time from a completely new perspective: a look at historical events told exclusively from the point of view of women. Following the screening, filmmaker Sandra naumann and daniela Münkel, Head of Research at the Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive, will talk about the idea behind the film, the background and the historical context.
