On this cycle tour with the true Sulter native and certified nature and landscape guide Gabriele Link, discover the treasures of this industry in the unique cultivated landscape in the Südheide Nature Park.

Salt boilers, peat cutters, blacksmiths and wheelwrights, salt writers and salt drivers and many more shaped life in the heath village of Sülze for 500 years. Twenty generations have worked in and around Sülze to produce salt. Although the salt works were abandoned around 150 years ago, traces of this era can still be found today; but not at first glance!

The bike tour begins in the center of Sülze. Here, models of the saltworks provide evidence of salt production. With impressions and insights into brine transport, grading and salt boiling, the path leads to Kokturhof, today's Kathof.

Always following the fuel peat, we continue through the peat areas in the Örtze glacial valley along the old shipping ditches to Hassel and the Twießelhop boiling point. The path leads back to Sülze through the forest and the semi-open grassland, before immediately diving back into the landscape in the direction of Lindhorst. Here it becomes clear once again how the brine was repeatedly transported to the changing boiling points via the so-called tube trips. The circuit leads over the old Rohrendamm towards Altensalzkoth, follows the Venusbach and finally ends back in Sülze. The exhibition on the last era of salt production in Sülze concludes the bike tour.

Be excited and be surprised when you discover the saltworks treasure. You drive about 25 km through fields, forests and meadows on well-paved paths.
