KASBAH CAID ALI EL JADIDA
25 years of restoration of a Moroccan adobe castle

Special exhibition
18.5. to 3.10.2025

The clan castles (kasbahs) of the Amazigh are the flagship of Moroccan adobe architecture. They are unique and impressive - and in great danger of falling into disrepair and being forgotten. Manfred Fahnert has been working to preserve one of these clan castles, the Kasbah Caid Ali el Jadida in southern Morocco, since 1997. Generations of adobe builders from Germany have taken part in his annual courses to renovate the kasbah. Some of them first came to clay through these educational trips - and stuck with it. The Kasbah renovation project has now become a place of encounter and mediation between tradition, modernity and technology. The photo exhibition documents this development.
