Julian Irlinger: Stray pointers

Julian Irlinger: Stray pointers

An examination of the practice and history of hand-drawn animation based on the tragic fate of Ludwig II.

    EN
In his artistic work, Julian Irlinger uses various media - including sculpture, photography, drawing and film - to explore the intertwining of art and cultural macronarratives as well as their connection with the present and future. For his solo exhibition Verirrte Zeiger at the Kunstverein für Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin, Irlinger uses the tragic fate of Ludwig II to examine the technique and history of hand-drawn animation and reflects on a process similar to the "Disneyfication" known from architectural sociology - the transformation of historical narratives and figures into affirmative pop-cultural entertainment and politically motivated rhetoric.
