Sunday, May 18, 2025 is International Museum Day. Museums across Germany are inviting visitors to their buildings under the motto "Discover museums".
Sunday, May 18, 2025 is International Museum Day. Museums across Germany are inviting visitors to their buildings under the motto "Discover museums". The Dömitz Fortress Museum is also taking part with a free guided tour.
On the fortress tour, guests learn about the exciting history of the former border fortress on the Elbe, which later became a state penal institution and where Fritz Reuter, the most important Low German poet, spent the last year of his "Festungstid" in 1839 - 1840. Participants explore the facility both above and below ground.
The exhibitions of the museum and the Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe are also open.
