THE DISCOVERY OF NATURE - Landscapes of the Weimar School of Painting in the Rasmus Collection
Visitors are given an insight into the development of landscape painting at the Weimar art school from around 1870.
Artists such as Theodor Hagen, Christian Rohlfs, Paul Baum, Hans Olde and Carl Arp are presented, whose works illustrate the transition from Naturalism to Impressionism. The influence of French open-air painting on the Weimar School of Painting is addressed, as is the artists' travel activities, which took up motifs from the Baltic coast to southern Europe.
The exhibition shows works from the collection of the Jürgen and Maria Elisabeth Rasmus Foundation as well as from the Mecklenburg Foundation and the Schwaan Art Museum.
