Thursday, 15/05/2025 / 07:00 PM - 12:00 AM / Kreisagrarmuseum Dorf Mecklenburg
Stasi Records Archive and District Agricultural Museum invite you to a lecture in Dorf Mecklenburg on May 15
65 years ago, the SED ended collectivization in agriculture in the "socialist spring". Karl Mewis, 1st Secretary of the SED district leadership in Rostock, had proclaimed the motto "De Appel is riep" and announced its completion for his district on March 4, 1960.
The speaker Dr. Michael Heinz (historian, Federal Archives) will explain at the lecture in Dorf Mecklenburg how and why collectivization began in 1952 and how it was forcibly completed in 1960. He will explain the coercive measures with which the SED persuaded the last farmers to join the agricultural production cooperatives (LPG) and how the rural population in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Vorpommern reacted. Stasi documents show how the Ministry for State Security stifled resistance with arrests, among other things.
